[email] [print]  Zombie, MusicBrainz, MP3, oh my!

Oct 25, 2005 11:01 UTC, by Chris Simmons, Senior Journalist.
From the food-for-thought department...

Let me introduce you to a new application ready to eat your data...

Zombie, a MusicBrainz client written by Slaad, who as you may know is also responsible for many other apps such as InfoPopper and Snoopy.

MusicBrainz is a community music meta database that attempts to create a comprehensive music information site. Much like the CDDB database, it allows you to query it in an attempt to figure out what the audio content is on that CD you just ripped to the hard drive. Where it differs is in using Acoustic Fingerprints (TRM's) to identify the audio material, instead of duration information from the cd/tracks.

So, back to Zombie... It will be the BeOS client that accesses the MusicBrainz database, much the same as the Windows MusicBrainz Tagger!, MacOSX's iEatBrainz! and Linux's Juk, Gstreamer clients do. Except we will use the full power of BFS attributes with the added assurity that BeOS/Haiku speed and stability will not only excel our client, but make it a joy to use.

That's a lot to live up to Slaad! :)

I know you're up to the task, and I do look forward to seeing it released soon.
