[email] [print]  JMicron SATA Coming To Haiku

Apr 15, 2007 14:59 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist.
From the supported-hard-drives department...

JMicron, one of the major makers of SATA controllers, has agreed to support the development of drivers for its hardware for Haiku, with both specifications and hardware for testing. Marcus Overhagen, who has been working on SATA support for both Silicon Image and AHCI-compatible controllers will be working on the drivers.

This is, to date, the most positive move from a hardware maker in relation to Haiku. Most drivers implemented in the OS come from specs reverse-engineered by either Haiku developers or those on other projects, or are based on driver code (but not specifications) released by the manufacturers.
