[email] [print]  Xentronix not to develop for BeOS anymore

Jun 04, 2007 12:55 UTC, by Remi Grumeau, Contributing Journalist.
From the department...

Confirming my doubts, Frans replied today to my email, Xentronix developpement for BeOS is definitly finish. Even if "working with and for the BeOS community has been a great experience", circonstances made them moved on to MacOS X and webhosting/dedicated server supply.

Here is quotes of the email:

"Xentronix however has stopped all Zeta/BeOS related work. Magnussoft has bought a Refraction source/distribution license for the Zeta platform, but I personally doubt that they will ever put the license to actual use given recent developments regarding Zeta.

Due the recent changes of Access' relationship with yellowTAB, there is no future for Zeta as we see it.

As yellowTAB never payed the licenses they sold (they never payed due bankruptcy, as we worked out a settlement just before that, which never made it), supporting this platform was a very costly and time consuming experience for us.
(...)
Working with and for the BeOS community has been a great experience, but given the circumstances we had to move on.
Our new software target platform is MacOSX."

Sad news seeing a company leaving out beloved platform (since Refraction was also available for BeOS R5), and even is haiku is becoming more and more usable, "Haiku might be a nice BeOS alternative, but it just comes too late for us".

Frans, we all wish you the best !!!
