Got a burning desire to get those holiday snaps off your digital camera? Well now you'll soon be able to, thanks to the help of "Jixt", a developer in the BeOS Community who is seeking some willing volunteers to help test his new application, BeDiGiCam.
I'll let Jixt explain more.
BeDiGiCam is a little CLI program that makes it possible to get pictures from digital cameras that use the PTP protocol. It is now in an early alpha stage, but it is already possible to get pictures from certain cameras (HP Photosmart 318, Nikon coolpix 2000 and Sony Cybershot P8).
For the moment the program can be used under Phos and Zeta. It is not yet possible to use it under R5, but I am working on that.
What I want for the moment are testers. This because I want to be sure that every PTP digital camera can be used under BeOS. For the moment I am busy with a framework that is going to be the interface of the PTP cameras. Later on I will write a GUI around it. With this GUI you should be able to get pictures from a PTP cam in a 'simple' way. The program can be found here:

Thx,

So there you have it. If you have some time to spare, and a digital camera that might just work with the app, then please contact Jixt
via email and let him know.
I must chip in a personal note... We've lately been seeing a lot of great applications and projects started by various members of the community, and I feel its wonderful. However, what I'm not seeing is the usual inquiries and comments that usually follow-up afterwards, and I think it would serve everyone well if a friendly email was sent to not just TBJ so we can do an update, but to the various hard-working developers who deserve the feedback. Please, if you have a suggestion, comment, or idea, send it in and we will pass it on, or even make a news item out of it.
We're hoping to rejuvenate our fine community back into the illustrious and invigorating BeOS Community that we know we are, despite the low membership showing itself publically. Don't be afraid, all you lurkers out there. ;) Step up, make new friends, and introduce yourself while you provide valuable feedback.
There. I've said my piece. ;) Here's a toast to another great project idea. Thanks Jixt!
