[email] [print]  beunited At WalterCon - News, projects, Java Demonstration!

Jun 19, 2004 15:45 UTC, by Bryan Varner, Contributing Journalist.
From the I can't believe it's not native department...

As posted on BeGroovy beunited President Simon Gauvin and Chairman Deej took some time to talk about standards development across OSBOS platforms, give updates on some of the applicaiton projects beunited has, talk more about the future of the organization, and torture us with futher talk of their upcoming developer portal.

BeGroovy scooped the Java demo (which I was a part of).

We demonstrated Sun's Java J2SE 1.4.2 running on a vanilla R5.0.3 distribution. Compiling and running simple command-line programs. I then talked about the Java Abstract Windowing Toolkit and the status of getting it working on BeOS. To close off the demonstration, we ran a small demo test-case of creating native BWindows as Java objects.

This is the first time the BeOS Java port has been publicly shown.
It does exist!
It does work!

Thanks to BeGroovy keeping the community posted becuase I didn't think it would be fair to scoop myself.
