[email] [print]  Yabu Yabu Yabu... (Yet Another BeBits Update) :)

Feb 07, 2005 11:54 UTC, by Chris Simmons, Senior Journalist.
From the ooh-bits! department...

Time for another BeBits update, which I've titled "Yet Another BeBits Update"... How original. :)

I only chose a few from the recent entries (and there are always new additions daily) over at BeBits, so please if you are the author of one I missed, don't feel bad. I'll try to get you next time.

Ok... on with the list:

  • Dutch BeOS Locale Translation.
The first translation into the Dutch language for the LocaleTracker fork, nonetheless a welcome one by Dutch users to be sure. This effort allows native Dutchmen (and women, I suppose. :) to use LocaleTracker (a multi-language aware version of Tracker) almost entirely in Dutch, replacing the many english strings with their Dutch equivalents. More work is planned for the future, and we encourage anyone to contact the developer, Meanwhile, if they have an addition. Be sure also to check out the International Keymap Pack too.
  • Broadcom 440x 10/100 Ethernet Driver.
For owners of these cards, you will be glad to hear that this release adds a net_server version of the driver that actually works, after fixing a bug with non-blocking mode. Various other bugs related to crashing in both net_server and BONE versions have been squashed too. Make sure that if you are having problems, to report them straight away to Nathan Whitehorn, lead developer of the driver, or use the Talkback page to report any issues.
  • Wonderbrush Graphics Tool.
This is actually a small update to the even larger 1.6.0 release that had a ton of additions, fixes, changes, and more. Some of the more notable are the unified Export feature that now supports SVG and Adobe Illustrator formats, line cap and line join modes in the Outline Shapes tool, and new Layer Blending modes, with an improvement to some of the algorithms used therein. Be sure to visit the Talkback page to keep up to date on new developments as they happen.
  • Muscle Daemon.
Quite a sizeable update, this release adds the "port=0" command line argument, allowing muscled to choose an available TCP port to listen for incoming messages. Many API additions such as GetHumanReadableTimeString(), ChildProcessReadyToRun(), and GetSessionSelectSocket(), to name but a few. In addition, porting to other platforms sees help with updates for both the Windows and SunOS versions. Lots to read over at the muscle homepage.

Every once in a while I like to provide an update here of what I see are important changes to the software landscape of the BeOS/Haiku world. It is important to keep track of how our fair community is growing, daily, bit by bit. I hope that this helps show that we are growing, and if there are any requests for more updates of this nature, please drop me a line with your idea.

Thanks to the many hard-working developers we already have. Your work hasn't gone unnoticed! I also would like to thank the guys who run BeBits, for making such an oustanding service available to us all!

Cheers.
