[email] [print]  Haiku Gets 'Blue Screen', Localisation and GCC

May 31, 2005 13:18 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist.
From the feature-bomb department...

Axel has just posted a short in length, but massive in importance news update to the Haiku website, saying that the bugs which had prevented GCC from properly running under Haiku have now been fixed, meaning that development can actually be done on Haiku itself

In addition, the 'Blue Screen', or on-screen debugging console, has now been implemented. This allows debugging without the need for a serial line and terminal session on a remote box for debugging if the app_server or kernel crash. This will allow developers to find and fix bugs with less hassle

Also, the OpenTracker Locale Kit, a standardised localisation system for times/dates, currency/number formats and obviously, text strings in applications, now works under Haiku. This project, not very much in the public eye, aims to ensure Haiku has one standard way of setting locale preferences system wide
