Rudolf Cornellisen author of the
3D accelerant for nVidia TNT and GeForce 1, 2 and 4MX cards, has announced on
his blog that further development of the driver, which has even been
ported to RISCOS, is currently suspended
Rudolf was in the process of moving his driver off the old Mesa 3.4.2 core to the current 6.2.1 version, but was hitting problems with changes in the internal API. To continue his driver work, and to gain more knowledge of Mesa 6.2.1, Rudolf is currently working on a driver for Via graphics cards (which we
we reported on in June). Via graphics cards have public and very comprehensive documentation, as well as opensource DRI 3D graphics drivers, he is going to try to write a 3D driver for them. When this is done, he will return to trying to move the nVidia driver to MESA 6.x
His 2D Via driver, with support for video overlay and mode setting, but not yet 2D acceleration, is already available in the Haiku SVN, and at the
Build Factory. This will provide improved video playback performance and the ability to use graphics modes out of the eye-burning range on Via video cards.
