From the quasimodo-entering-insanity department...

Right, its been a bit quiet here lately, although I notice Chris has posted something recently (that I had mentioned in this roundup, drat). I feel a bit of a roundup is required before I go insane, so here it is.

On the Haiku front, Axel has implemented MTRR support for Intel, AMD and Via CPU's in Haiku. This allows write-combining for data bursting, and other techniques which can significantly speed up memory operations - most notably and importantly, graphics operations. This has significantly sped up the app_server.

Also on the Haiku front, the PowerPC port has picked up again somewhat, with Ingo having provided a GCC4-based toolchain (which, it appears, can also be built on x86 to make a binary incompatible, but GCC4-compiled Haiku), and has worked on the PowerPC specific maths code in libroot, the OpenFirmware bootloader, and other aspects. This is after a long lull, during which the x86 port sped ahead of the PPC version - at one stage, the PPC version was further on than the x86.

Bme, an MSN client for BeOS, has changed homepage, and is in the middle of a full rewrite by its new lead developer, Tim de Jong. Its not in a usable state, as yet, but has moved to using MSN Protocol 11 as opposed to an older protocol with any real risk of being disabled, and is using OpenSSL for its encryption, as opposed to cryptlib before.

Its been relatively quiet on the BeBits front, with updates to the old regulars - SeaMonkey, VLC and Firefox being among the more major updates.
