Bryan Varner has begun working on
Haiku's implementation of
ACPI, the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface that controls many parts of modern x86 systems.
The ACPI subsystems were initially contributed in
February 2005 by Nathan Whitehorn, but have not received much attention since. While they are functionally operational on most hardware, few drivers exist, other than one for power-button enduced shutdowns. Personally, I used the ACPI subsystem with a customised driver to enable the backlight on long-lamented Sony Vaio laptop.
Bryan is looking for people with specific hardware or ACPI quirks; as well as those suffering crashes with the drivers, so he is
looking for ACPI hardware profiles to be submitted to him
Anyone with an x86 machine running BeOS, and probably Zeta, can download the drivers from his website, and be submitting their hardware profile within minutes. Just think of all the fame, money, fast cars, fast women you'll get if you become The One who finds a critical bug.... or not. But hey, its worth it for the satisfaction alone.
