Version 2.4 of the Pe editor has been
released to BeBits. In the second release since the code was open-sourced, the formerly commercial text editor has fixed a number of GUI bugs, and has become majorly more font sensitive, as well as some internal changes that, while not nessacerily visible to the end user, make large changes. In particular, the first launch of Pe on a system which has not run it before will no longer take around 2 to 5 minutes like it formerly did.
Pe was first released in the 1990s as a commercial application by
Hekkelman Programmatuur, and it was effectively 'ported' to Windows, MacOS X and Linux as Pepper. The BeOS version was released under a BSD-style licence in around 2003, and work has continued since then, mainly lead by Oliver "Zooey" Tappe, but consisting of contributions from a huge number of developers, possibly more than any single non-Haiku project in the BeOS world.
