From the X platform department...

To all those out there who are still running BeOS on PPC, good news. OpenBeOS developer and Kernel Team leader, Axel Dörfler has been given, at BeGeistert, a PPC motherboard, by Nicholas Blachford, from Genesi. It's a Pegasos board, their PPC platform which will be available later this year, and which has a good number of features.

Axel goes on to say that, though that will be the only hardware where OpenBeOS will be sure to work with (since it's the one piece he has to test), getting it to work on Apple hardware shouldn't be much trouble, since it also uses OpenFirmware.

What's the port status you ask? Well, in his own words:

"The port is currently in its very early stages; the build compiles on PPC, and I am currently working on an hardware independent stage 2 boot loader with an OpenFirmware backend (the same loader will be used for the x86 platform then)."

So there you have it, good news for PPC owners and users, and of course, good news for OpenBeOS, by getting a potentially larger user base.
