Bryan Varner is insane. Why do i say that? Well, he is on an ongoing, non-stop, 72 hours long code-a-thon, to bring JavaShare 2 to beta stage. See? Now you agree with me.
He had this idea not long ago, and decided to come through with it. For that he asked for help from the community, in
this site. As you can see at the bottom of the page, the response was very good and it's currently underway as we speak (well, as I type).
And here's a status update from the man himself:
"Progress made in the last 18 hours:
You can now 'share' files, however other users cannot download them yet, they now show up in queries. A user-editable mime-type database exists withingJavaShare, and when files are shared, mime-types are mapped to the files extension. We play very nice with BeShare. Currently, the query user interface is under construction, and I'm finishing up the underlying network code for queries. These should be operational by the end of the day.
So far, it's not moving quite as quickly as I had hopped, but it's moving about the speed I expected. At this rate, come Monday afternoon I'm still hoping for a beta.
Thanks to everyone stopping in on BeShare to keep me going! It really
does help!
Bryan"
So far so good, he hasn't dropped stiff yet. So everyone who's in BeShare, or drops by, give him a cheer, i'm sure he'll appreciate it, and need it.
UPDATE:The Code-A-Thon is now over, and what do you know, Bryan made it in one piece... or something similar to it. You can read the end result right
here. Also, check out the interview he gave Neil Morris over at the
BeOS Radio site.
