From the crossing-the-threshold department...

This just in from Bryan Varner...

JavaShare 2.0 has finally been realized, and there is a website to help launch it properly.

What is JavaShare 2.0 you are asking? I'll let the press release tell you more:

"At 4:15 PM Central Time November 15, 2003 http://www.javashare.org went live. Along with it, comes the long awaited upgrade to the true cross-platform BeShare client, JavaShare.

JavaShare, now at version 2.0 features a host of new features, incredible improvements in speed, memory usage, stability, and includes (finally) full file-transfer support! Like it's previous incarnations, version 2.0 requires a Java 1.1.8 Runtime Environement or later. This allows JavaShare to run on outdated operating systems, such as MacOS 8.1 through 9.2.

Version 2.0 has taken some 10 months of steady development which began with version 1.3 getting ripped to pieces. The majority of those parts were completely thrown away. The result is a near total rewrite of JavaShare, with tighter, cleaner, faster code. It's a difference you definately feel when using it.

JavaShare is available for download with specific packages for Windows, MacOS X, and MacOS Classic. Executable .jar files are provided for other operating systems. You can download JavaShare 2.0 from http://www.varnernet.com/javashare/download.jsp.

-- Note --

JavaShare was previously called "JavaShare 2" and given version numbers after the '2'. This was more than just a bit confusing. With the sweeping changes this release brings to the code, it is a true 2.0 version. Thus, the '2' has been dropped from the 'JavaShare 2' giving us a clean, easy way to remember things. This release is JavaShare 2.0, the next one very well may be JavaShare 2.1."

Now I know what you are thinking... ;) With the recent news of Java for BeOS, wouldn't it be sweet to get a screenshot of JavaShare running on BeOS? heheh.

For those of you that are unlucky enough to not be running BeOS all the time for your computing needs, and you want to stay in touch with the BeOS Community via various muscle servers, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Download JavaShare 2.0 and try it out today! Tell Bryan all about any bugs you may find, and he will squash them, I'm positive. ;)

As a silent part of the beta team, I was privileged to witness his sheer dedication and maddening attention to detail as he found and destroyed bug after bug. Relentless, I tell ya! Way to go Bryan. Give yourself a pat on the back. ;)
