Philipe Rubio writes in to inform us that there is a new development tool for BeOS being unveiled soon, one that has seen much development in secret during the past year and a bit.
Here's more from Philipe himself:
I would like to announce a project that has been living in shadows for just too long now. But now I want to tell the community of its existance.
Today I've updated the Masquerade web site, but none of you have ever seen it or know what Masquerade is. Well Masquerade is a project that has been kept secret for about a year now. I know I should have told the community about this project a long time ago but I didn't.
But what is actually Masquerade?
Well it's a full-featured IDE for the BeOS platform. I started working on this project alone in october 2002 and in january 2003 the first functional builds were made. There has been a lot of development since then and the team has grown in numbers, we are now currenty 3 developers working on the code plus some testers and graphics artists.
Why do we need a graphics artist?
Well someone needs to make the icons and splashscreens and stuff like that. The reason it was kept secret was to be able to work on the code in peace, but we are now not too far from a public release and I thought it was your right to know about the project. For more information please visit http://masquerade.beosmax.org, the site is still beta but I will update it with more information and screenshots in the next days to come.
Philipe Rubio - Project leader
I actually had kept quiet on this for a little bit, but after seeing another email from Vassilis Perantzakis, and seeing the
posting at ZetaNews, decided to publish the full press release by Philipe.
My personal take: This can be a very good thing to have in our BeOS toolchest, adding to the already exciting events happening with the
Project 'X' and
CodeLiege development fronts. I'm sure all three groups will welcome any feedback and help from interested developers.
