[email] [print]  JavaShare 2 Status Update.

From the do-da-dew department...

We caught up with Bryan Varner, the main developer of JavaShare 2, and asked him how things are going, how is life, that sort of thing...

Here's his quite thorough reply.

A shift in priorities since the 2.0 release has forced JavaShare to the back-burner. The list of things to do for 2.1 is pretty complete. There's about five bug reports I've received in the past 3 months, none of which are devastating in nature. In pushing JavaShare to the back, I've brought the BeOS java port to the front, where I'm actively working on major, large, complex hunks of code when I can.

Unfortunately (or fortunately!) real-life happened as well. My job got insanely hecktic, the house I was renting a room in flooded (again... so this time I moved to my own new apartment), and I was left without internet access aside from my job (which was overloading me) for over 33 days.

I've also forced myself through severe caffeine withdrawl. I'm down to about two cups of coffee a day. Considering about a month ago it wasn't unheard of for me to down 6 Bawls, upwards of 8 cups of coffee, and a few Mt. Dews in a day, I'd say that's pretty good.

Now that I have internet access again (I'm updating my cvs for a few projects now...) you can expect to see some progress on the things I'm working on. My website (which has been crippled for months now) included. Yeah!

I asked Bryan (in BeShare), "What do you hope to have done by August?" and he replied with:

Bryan: I hope to have JavaShare 2.0 running on BeOS. :-D
Bryan: LOL
Bryan: Perhaps we'll get a 2.1 out there...
Bryan: we'll see -- public outcry carries a lot of weight.

JavaShare 2 is a great application for those that can't boot into BeOS for one reason or another, as it allows you to still stay in touch (in real-time) with the community. What is also interesting is if for some reason there is a technical problem, one can log into the "BeShare network" and get technical help live. There's always someone logged in, 24/7.

So all you windoze users out there who want to give it a whirl, give it a try.
