From the nocular-plane department...

DLazlo writes in,
Issue 59 of 3D World Magazine, has on it's included CD, a free, full edition of Bryce4 for Win and Mac for those of you who always wondered about it when it's port to BeOS was a hot topic. It also has an upgrade discount for Bryce5 and some tutorial material aimed at the included Bryce4 to get you rolling.

I was curious about this too, so I went poking around the Bryce website for a little more information about the older version 4. Currently their focus is version 5, and there is apparently no overview about the older version, unfortunately. At least, I couldn't see a product overview of version 4.

Anyone out there willing to pick up a copy of the Christmas issue of 3D World Magazine and check out the CD? Let us know how far along Bryce has come since the early days, if only for curiousity's sake.

Ok, I feel obligated to tie this into Haiku/BeOS somehow, if you haven't gotten the connection yet. Back in the good ol' days of BeOS R4.5, when BeOS was becoming a buzzword in silicon valley, a lot of multimedia companies stepped forward and announced products for the platform. One of these was the makers of Bryce, featuring a special compiled version for BeOS R4.5, if I recall correctly, that itself was featured in a demonstration video which showed how turning off one of the CPU's (in real time) affected rendering. My memory is a little fuzzy, but this is what I recall. Someone can write to correct me if they like. :)

What I'd like to see is a return to those exciting days, where multimedia companies could once again offer their wares for our Haiku platform. In time, I know... in time. Till then, we can dream, right?
