[email] [print]  Extending BeOS Queries With Google.

From the all-hail-the-query department...

Our favoritate french hacker, mmu_man, has been busy incorporating the power of Google searching with the BeOS query system, and so far the results are impressive.

See another example.

His "googlefs" (Google File System), as he calls it, allows you to form a regular query, which then goes and asks Google for a set of results. These results are then published as NetPositive bookmarks locally, in a mounted "Google" volume. One is able to right click and browse the volume, like a regular mounted drive, and see the results for each save query. mmu_man has only been working on this for about a week, and already it partly works.

As mmu_man stated in BeShare, his next goal is to improve the query parser:

...make the query parser more intelligent. For now it only accepts ((name="*Q*")&&(BEOS:TYPE==application/x-vnd.Be-bookmark)) and forwards Q to google. I have to filter on bookmarks because else it would search for mail and files everytime. :)

Considering it is in Alpha phase, that is pretty cool, I think.
