IntroductionThis review will not try to cater to users new to the BeOS world, but will focus on what has changed since my review of ZETA RC1 and what remains to be done for future releases. I should make my bias(es) known before I continue further. I'm against the inclusion of things that will bloat my installed operating system. I do not agree with the new installer that bundles large amounts of sub-standard software (179 megabytes for cheap SDL games!) that I may not even want. I believe the OS should be just that; the core systems that comprise the operation of the machine, and allow one to run basic applications that do Email, Internet Browsing, Text editing, and so forth. The release of ZETA 1.0 is a long time in coming, and much work has gone into its creation, so I give credit to yellowTAB for surviving this long. I hope that yellowTAB continues evolving to the point where they can be a real alternative OS provider. Please read on for my thoughts on ZETA 1.0 and I hope you enjoy the review. -Chris Simmons |
