ZETA 1.0 Review

Hardware Configuration

The hardware I used to produce this review is composed of these items:

Hey! That's the exact same hardware I used in my last review, isn't it!

I wanted to keep it simple and see if ZETA had improved in the duration. For the most part it had, but despite being told repeatedly by myself and many frustrated users, there still exist some rather obvious faults with ZETA 1.0.

For this review I've managed to test Networking, Printer and USB support. My main test computer is quite old by today's standards, but I did additionally test ZETA 1.0 on a Pentium 4 system and I know from various sources that the new AMD chips (2600+) are supported too, making the Kernel support myth just that, a myth.

ZETA hardware support is a no-brainer as it is based on the principle that if there is a driver for it, it should "just work", which is exactly how it is on BeOS. Note too that this hardware detection is done on-the-fly at every boot, loading the appropriate driver needed. In this way ZETA is identical to the BeOS system it is based on.
