[email] [print]  AbiWord 2.2.8 for BeOS

Jan 29, 2006 23:03 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist.
From the quiet-development department...

Despite BeOS officially being dropped as a supported platform for AbiWord some time before 1.0 came out; screenshots and a download location for the ported source of 2.2.8 have appeared on haiku-os.pl.

I don't have the Polish required to decipher the article - or indeed, any Polish at all, so I can't pull much more info out of the article than a link to the download, which also provides two screenshots - and a screenshot of some form of GPLFlash based Macromedia Flash player, presumably unconnected to ICO's scoop on a port of GNU Gnash to Zeta.

The download weighs in as a 16.4MB bzip2 compressed source code (not binary), and presumably runs on R5, at least based off the screenshots. Its not the absolute newest version (2.4.2 at time of writing), but will be a massive improvement over the 0.7-series releases of the 2000 era on BeBits.

If anyone who knows anything more in English can email me, I would appreciate it. Particularly if you can link to a binary ;)

Update

I got a mail from the porter himself, Sokolov Anton, who goes by the nickname "knorr". He's been working on the port since the summer of 2005, and is looking for help from anyone interested with BeOS API and general C++ skills.
