[email] [print]  ZETA 1.2 Hits The Shops, New Distributor

May 25, 2006 01:31 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist.
From the games-to-be-ported? department...

yellowTAB's ZETA 1.2 has been released to resellers, such as Mensys via their new distributor, Magnussoft. 1.2 was expected to be the final R5-compatible version of the OS, and will be reviewed on HaikuNews shortly.

However, following yellowTAB's recent difficulties, news reports in Germany are suggesting that Magnussoft may be more than a distributor (German language); and that a ZETA 1.3 will be demonstrated at the Leipzig Games Convention 2006 by Magnussoft, possibly running some games including Airline Tycoon. The article also suggests that yellowTAB as a business entity no longer exists, with Magnussoft as the likely new developers as well as distributers. The article is from a reputable German news source, although news does not yet seem to have spread to other sites such as Heise. Discretion would be advised in believing any single source news, and HaikuNews will update as soon as any more information is available.

Magnussoft are not directly a software development house, but they own Rune-Soft, a company who port games to Linux, Mac OS X, and somewhat strangely, MorphOS. Rune-Soft ported Airline Tycoon to some of these platforms (coincidentally a personal favourite of mine, albeit in the English language Windows version by Monte Cristo), as well as a number of other games which aren't as instantly recognisable by me at least. Even if Magnussoft's involvement resulted in nothing other than new games for the platform, this would be welcom.
