[email] [print]  Gnash for BeOS

Nov 28, 2006 09:07 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist.
From the flashy-thingies department...

DaaT over at ICO got a mail from Michael 'mmlr' Lotz (and I didn't, waaah) about his port of Gnash, the GNU Flash Player to BeOS.

Those with long memories may remember something similar on ICO back in January, but this time we have a name to place to the port - and lots of screenshots to ogle at.

Using the AGG library as its rendering backend - as used in Wonderbrush and the Haiku app_server - and with a native BeOS frontend, Michael has even produced a Mozilla/Firefox plugin for his port, which is no easy feat as the plugin API used by Mozilla on BeOS is taken from Opera 3, and not the same as that on other platforms.

The port currently requires BONE, and doesn't have native sound support as-yet. Michael has been behind other ports to BeOS, including QEMU, released the first public vector-graphics capable implementation of Tracker for BeOS R5, and has done much of the work on the Haiku USB stack - as well as Haiku's entire wireless network card support to date.
