[email] [print]  VNCServer Progress.

Feb 15, 2005 02:05 UTC, by Chris Simmons, Senior Journalist.
From the desktop-goo department...

Over at BeBits Alexander G. M. Smith has released another update to his work on the VNC Server for BeOS/Haiku, and I must say it is shaping up nicely. (I'm one of his secret beta testers, shh! :)

The current release adds a few requested features such as a BScreen reading technique in order to support more video cards. Clipboard support for text enables one to copy/paste while connected, across systems that support the feature, allowing one to share data even across the network on two different computing platforms. Additional features include optional mouse cursor graphic for clients that don't show the mouse, using a standard settings directory for configuration files, and optionally being able to turn off selected screen reading techniques.

Alex notes that at this point all that remains left to do is a PowerPC version for the lucky users running BeOS/Haiku on PowerPC hardware. He welcomes any and all critiques or suggestions in order to see the BeOS/Haiku port run as smooth as possible. Check out his homepage for more interesting projects he has worked on, or to drop him an email. I'm sure he would appreciate the contact.
