Lots of TV Progress on BeOS. Mar 05, 2005 20:58 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist From the moving-images department... Two updates for those of us who watch TV on our BeOS boxes today: Firstly, Marcus Overhagen, the Haiku Media Kit lead, has provided ICO with screenshots of the latest version of his DVB-T media addon. This connects to the Media Kit natively rather than using VLC as an interface to his Hauppuage Win TV Nova DVB driver. As someone stuck in a country where the national TV station is still VHF, and where I have to pay through the nose to get DVB-S, I can only feel envious of those who get to use Marcus's shiny new driver and media node... In addition, BiPolar has released the first beta of his driver for the Philips SAA713x TV chipset. This version doesn't decode video yet, only audio and FM, hence its name of "I Don't C TV". The driver will let you listen to your TV in the supplied test app, and includes a BeRadio addon for FM broadcasts. Thanks to BiPolar for the clarification on that. BiPolar also mentioned in his email that the BeOS community have already been invaluably helpful with feedback and information to help the development of the driver.
