Haiku In The Press: Linux Format Hot Picks Mar 13, 2006 16:31 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist From the magazinely-goodness department... Linux Format, a Linux and general OSS magazine read by 26,000 in the UK and Ireland every month features Haiku as its "HotPicks Hottest Pick", with full page coverage of the OS, its roots and history and its development. The build factory image of January 23rd, 2006 is reviewed and is included on the cover DVD, along with instructions on running in qemu. I'll attempt to get a scan of the article up here for posterity, but for the moment, heading down to your local newsagent and parting with the £6.49 that the DVD edition costs is the best way to read it all, although those familiar with the OS are unlikely to learn anything they do not know. Specific namechecks are given to BeBits, Axel Dörfler, yellowTAB, Gobe Productive and NewOS in the text, however. The UK market is in general highly receptive of alternative OSs, being the home of RISC OS, which was hugely sucessful in the 1990's, and featuring a large Linux userbase. A prominent position, with a screenshot showing Haiku in all its Tracker and Deskbar-running glory, in a major tech magazine is a great boost to the fledgling OS.
