TBJ Hosting Issue. May 08, 2003 10:42 UTC, by Chris Simmons, Senior Journalist From the straws-and-camels department... I'm a pretty loyal guy. The people of our community who know me well know there is one thing that stands out in my character above all else; Loyalty. But, I'm also trying to be practical, and honest with the realities of managing a growing news site, an important site to the community to be sure, and one that has helped push my skillset further than I ever dreamed. The problem is that our host, CompleXero, despite their graciousness at hosting us for free for well over a year, is starting to develop serious problems from a strictly hosting perspective. An example of this is the subdomain issue. TBJ in recent weeks was moving all the images being displayed onto their own subdomain, images.beosjournal.org, so as to help track just how much traffic goes where, etc. I have nothing against Mike, personally. I love the guy. He's been fantastic to us, and been quite supportive up until recently, but I suspect he's been on vacation since I haven't gotten a reply to recent emails. This is besides the main point I'm trying to make though. The key thing that I need to decide is whether to move hosts, to one where I have even more control over the services and features, and more bandwidth allocated per month, or try to upgrade my CompleXero account. For the latter, I've emailed Mike several times, and asked him, almost pleaded with him, really, to send him money to improve hosting conditions. Always, he has refused. I don't understand his reasons, but it's appreciated nonetheless. So, now I turn to you, the community at large, and ask for your opinions, thoughts, ideas, and even financial help. I know that whatever I do from this point on, I want to spend some real money on, and help The BeOSJournal flourish into something that I've so far only dreamed about, and discussed with our staff. I've created a thread at BeGroovy, here. Please visit, and discuss. Thanks to Ryan (both), Deej, Daat, Mike, Lars, Jess, Dane, Simon, and all the rest. You know who you are. -Chris Simmons, Avid BeOS User. The BeOSJournal.
