Dan Sydow's Book One Step Closer To Open Source. Aug 15, 2003 04:29 UTC, by Chris Simmons, Senior Journalist From the dead-tree department... Great news about the "Programming The Be Operating System" book by Dan Sydow. It's one step closer to being online, for free download/use and all that remains is the actual conversion process. I was emailed by Sara Winge at O'Reilly, one of the people in charge of this procvess, that things are going well. Dan has given his consent, and Tim O'Reilly (yes, THE Tim) emailed me to sign off with his approval too. Here's what Sara had to say: Chris, Dan has elected to put his book under the Creative Commons attribution license. As soon as the Creative Commons folks update the list at http://creativecommons.org/projects/founderscopyright/oreilly#oop it's status will show up as "cleared." The book isn't currently available in electronic format, but I'm checking with our production folks to see if it's possible to make it available. I'll keep you informed. Cheers, Sara So, all in all, this is great news. I realize many people have purchased the physical book, but for those that are newcomers, and/or can not afford to do so, this means more valuable information to help with BeOS development. Thanks go out to everyone who helped track down Dan in the first place. ;)
