From the backseat-driver department...

Siarzhuk Zharski has written an improved USB Mass Storage driver for BeOS. It features support for, well, pretty much any standard device you can name.
 
Great news for those who uses USB, which seems to be everyone but me but I guess it still counts as good news.
 
Update
The driver is also OpenSource and should be compatible with the OBOS license.
