VNC for BeOS Jan 03, 2005 04:50 UTC, by Kian Duffy, Senior Journalist From the controlling-remotely department... Alexander GM Smith, better known as AGMS, has today published his port of RealVNC's VNC Server 4 to BeOS. However, from the readme, it appears you may need a fully-suported graphics card, meaning those of us still suffering on VESA may not be able to use it currently. Whilst its not the first VNC server for BeOS (Mikeal Eiman and Francois Revol have both produced servers before), it is the newest one, and is based on the latest available sourcecode. Most of RealVNC's coders worked for AT&T and developed VNC originally. RealVNC is used to provide professional level IP based KVM's, and is hence much faster than ordinary VNC servers. Any VNC client can be used to connect, however, from the one available for BeOS to the ones available for Symbian cellphones, and of course clients for all other major systems. AGMS's port provides password authentication, which was missing from previous BeOS ports. This means you can safely leave your system VNC accessible at all times without the massive security risks inherent from an unprotected system.
